Memphis Artists Will Present a Holiday Concert to Benefit STEP, Inc.

STEP, Inc. (Support and Training for Exceptional Parents) today announced the organization will host its second annual “Lighting up the Season with Music”, a holiday benefit concert, on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Bartlett United Methodist Church located at 5676 Stage Road in Bartlett. The evening’s festivities will begin at 5:30 pm and will feature, a myriad of musical artists as Memphis retro soul artist, Nick Black, The Memphis Chinese Choir, conducted by Sean Pan, the Greater Purpose Choir, conducted by Wendell Weathers, Jr., Randy Harris and the Anointed Gifted Singers of Memphis, and soloists Winston Meriwether and Frank Phillips.  The highlight of the concert will be the University of Mississippi Gospel Choir, the first collegiate choir to sign with a major record label, Malaco Records, in Jackson, Mississippi, and the first to receive the prestigious honor of being nominated for a Grammy award in 2001 for its album entitled Send Up the Praise. This unique evening of gospel and holiday sounds will be coordinated by event music director, Darryl Sanford and his hand picked band, including saxophonist Josiah Taylor.  Also performing will be Cuban singer/ songwriter Alexis White, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata SMB Venezuelan Band, and the Herencia Hispana Ballet Folklorico Latin American Folk Dancers.

Memphian Deborah Thomas, a Mid-South star, mother, grandmother, gospel singer, and actress will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies. She is a member of Christ Missionary Baptist Church.

The event’s proceeds will benefit STEP, Inc., a non-profit organization whose vision is to ensure a brighter future for children and youth in Tennessee, with an emphasis on those with disabilities, special health care needs, and mental health needs. The public is invited to share this night celebrating the gifts of music, community, and exceptional children. Event admission is by donation at the door. Suggested donation is $10. Children and youth free with adults.
